Having another lousy day? The problem might be in the way you started it. Whether you work from home or go into an office, how you begin your day has lasting benefits until the time you end it. So besides waking up, what is your morning routine?
I had gotten into a bad habit of first checking my emails and subsequently becoming trapped for what seemed like forever on the Internet. This, of course, is a terrible way to get in the right frame of mind to face the rest of the day’s challenges. So I developed a sensible routine that includes getting up early enough to enjoy sunrise, quietly consume some fresh-brewed coffee, read and write in my gratitude journal.
When I was a child, I had no problem waking up early for a family vacation because I knew my parents had carefully planned our next exciting adventure. Now, I have no problem getting up early because I consider every day an opportunity for a well-planned and excellent new adventure.
Three mornings a week, my routine also includes drinking a large glass of water, putting on my running clothes and shoes, enjoying at least 45 minutes of steady exercise with one of my two accountability partners, or simply by myself. Once I get home, I drink more water; have a light breakfast, shower, dress, tidy up around the house and head out fresh and ready for another exciting venture.
Like I did when I was a child. Only better.
